Fire Erupts at Sun Valley Home with Longstanding Trash Issues
A fire ignited near a Sun Valley residence known for its accumulation of trash, prompting concerns among local residents. Firefighters responded shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday to a blaze on West La Tuna Canyon Road, where they discovered a fire involving a large pile of debris and an RV situated in a brush area behind the home, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
Fire crews successfully halted the fire’s spread, but a hazmat team was subsequently deployed due to the presence of lithium-ion batteries at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though community members have expressed ongoing worries about the property. Councilmember Monica Rodriguez noted that issues surrounding this house have been acknowledged by the city since 2019. Residents have long regarded the excessive trash as a significant safety concern.
Elena Malone, a local resident, voiced her apprehensions about the impact of the property on the neighborhood. “Fires are my biggest concern,” she stated in 2024. “The last fire on the property – I was actually there and called in the fire department. They responded quickly, but they couldn’t access the property with their trucks. They had to carry hoses in by foot.”
This incident highlights the urgent need for action regarding a property that residents believe has transformed into a junkyard, further intensifying calls for its cleanup.
