Federal Agent’s Shooting of TikToker in South LA Ends Without Indictment
Federal Judge Dismisses Indictment Against TikTok Creator Shot by Federal Agent
A federal judge has dismissed the indictment against Carlitos Richard Parias, a TikTok creator known as Richard LA, who was shot by a federal agent during an incident in South Los Angeles.
U.S. District Judge Fernando M. Olgin issued the order, highlighting the defendant’s lack of access to legal counsel during his detention. The dismissal was also influenced by the government’s failure to meet court deadlines, including the release of body camera footage from the encounter.
Parias was shot in October during a "targeted enforcement traffic stop," as described by the Department of Homeland Security. Authorities claimed he was driving erratically, allegedly trying to escape an immigration arrest by hitting law enforcement vehicles that had him surrounded.
Prosecutors reported that during the confrontation, a federal agent discharged a weapon, resulting in Parias sustaining a gunshot wound to the elbow. A ricochet from that bullet subsequently injured a deputy U.S. Marshal.
Parias’s attorney did not respond to inquiries for comment regarding the ruling.
