The film will add the Angelika in New York next week. Directed by Nick Corirossi, who stars alongside co-writer Armen Weitzman, this film is promoted as the fourth installment in a fictional franchise. The story revolves around Jack Jr. (Corirossi), his hesitant co-captain Miles Jr. (Weitzman), and their adventurous return to the Napa Boys. Tasked by a mysterious Sommelier, they are accompanied by Puck, an enthusiastic podcaster and the group’s biggest admirer.
The film features a diverse ensemble cast including alt-comedians Sarah Ramos, Mike Mitchell, Chloe Cherry, Vanessa Chester, Paul Rust, Jamar Neighbors, Nelson Franklin, David Wain, Ray Wise, Riki Lindhome, Natasha Leggero, Ivy Wolk, and Beth Dover. Jerrod Carmichael serves as the executive producer.
Warner Herzog’s documentary Ghost Elephants, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, opened in limited release in New York at the IFC Center and in Los Angeles at Laemmle Newhall, following a nationwide one-night simulcast in over 100 theaters. The film follows Dr. Steve Boyes, a conservation biologist and National Geographic Explorer, as he embarks on a quest for a mysterious and elusive herd of Ghost Elephants in Angola, guided by some of the world’s best master trackers.
In a different venture, GKIDS is collaborating with Regal Cinemas to release HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- Interactive Movie. This interactive animated rap tournament allows audience members to vote on outcomes in real time using a web-connected phone app, beginning February 27 at 15 locations across the United States.
The film previously set box office records during its limited release in Japan last spring. Directed by Takanori Tsujimoto, with a script by Yuichiro Momose and a cast featuring Subaru Kimura, Shitaro Asanuma, and Yusuke Shirai, it promises an immersive cinematic experience shaped by audience participation.
“Vote with or against your fellow movie-goers to determine how each battle unfolds in Japan’s first interactive anime film, where each screening is uniquely influenced by its audience,” the synopsis states. The narrative features six groups—Buster Bros!!!, Mad Trigger, Fling Posse, Matenro, Dotsuitare-Hompo, and Bad Ass Temple—competing in rap battles instead of violence, using a special microphone called the Hypnosis Mic. Lyrics delivered through this microphone are said to impact the human spirit, promoting peaceful resolutions and leading to the ultimate rap battle to decide the nation’s fate.
