Everything We Know About Season 4 of ‘Gilded Age’: Cast Updates and Plot Insights
HBO’s The Gilded Age Expands Season 4 Cast with New Additions and Promotion
HBO’s critically acclaimed series The Gilded Age continues its evolution as it announces four new guest stars and one promotion for the upcoming fourth season. Kelley Curran, who has played Enid “Turner” Winterton since Season 1, has been elevated to a series regular.
Joining the cast as guest stars are comedian Jim Gaffigan, known for Chappaquiddick; Dallas Roberts from Walk the Line; Elizabeth Marvel, recognized from Presumed Innocent; and Andrew Burnap, who starred in Snow White.
They will join returning cast members Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Cynthia Nixon, Christine Baranski, Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Taissa Farmiga, and Audra McDonald.
The show’s Season 4 logline promises intrigue: “Bertha Russell (Coon) changed Society at a cost. Now, her family must reckon with the consequences as Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) seizes an opportunity to regain her position. Meanwhile, Marian (Louisa Jacobson) forges a new path for herself, and Peggy (Denée Benton) works to be accepted by her future in-laws. In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for.”
The logline hints at significant challenges for the Russell family, whose previous success is now overshadowed by turmoil. The weight of societal expectations has taken a toll on Bertha and George Russell (Spector), culminating in what appeared to be a fraught relationship by the end of Season 3. However, the potential for reconciliation remains, as Bertha’s formidable empire continues to offer her options beyond her marriage.
Curran’s promotion comes after a season filled with tension around her character, particularly in relation to Oscar van Rhijn (Ritson), who considered a marriage of convenience with her. The forthcoming season promises to explore various nuptials, including potential unions between Oscar and Turner, Marian and Larry (Richardson), and Peggy with Dr. William Kirkland (Jordan Donica).
The newly announced cast members will portray the following characters:
- Gaffigan as Grover Cleveland, the 22nd President of the United States, who seeks to win over New York’s elite.
- Roberts as Daniel Manning, a seasoned politician and Secretary of the Treasury under Cleveland.
- Marvel as Nurse Virginia Saville, a compassionate nurse at the Neighborhood Settlement House in the Lower East Side.
- Burnap as Porter, a young gentleman of stature with both Ivy League credentials and financial backing for new ventures.
The Gilded Age is a co-production between HBO and Universal Television, overseen by creator and executive producer Julian Fellowes alongside writer and executive producer Sonja Warfield. The production team includes executive producers Gareth Neame, David Crockett, director Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Kate Churchill, Bob Greenblatt, and writer Elaine Aronson, with historical consultancy from Erica Dunbar.
Curran is represented by Beth Rosner Management, while Gaffigan has representation from UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Schreck Rose Dapello. Roberts is represented by Stewart Talent and Circle M+P; Marvel by Innovative Artists and Viking Entertainment; and Burnap by Beth Rosner Management and UTA.
