Michaela McManus Joins Cast of NBC’s "The Rockford Files" Pilot
Actress Michaela McManus, known for her roles in One Tree Hill and Law & Order: SVU, has been cast in NBC’s pilot for The Rockford Files, starring David Boreanaz.
This contemporary reboot of the classic series follows James Rockford, portrayed by Boreanaz, who is released from prison after being wrongfully convicted. As he resumes his career as a private investigator, Rockford uses his charm and wit to tackle cases in Los Angeles, navigating challenges from both local law enforcement and organized crime.
McManus will play the role of Kate, an East Hollywood detective entangled in a complicated romantic relationship with Rockford. This character is new to the reboot and does not appear in the original series, which aired from 1974 to 1980 featuring James Garner as the iconic detective.
While the series is set in Los Angeles, filming for the pilot will take place in Atlanta, with potential additional shooting in Los Angeles. The production location for a full series has yet to be confirmed, although there is speculation that it might pursue California tax credits if picked up.
The project is spearheaded by writer Mike Daniels and producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly, in collaboration with Universal Television. Chris Leanza serves as co-executive producer, while Boreanaz is also involved as a producer.
McManus is represented by CESD and Strand Entertainment.
