Ella Mai celebrated her inaugural trip to Saint Lucia by delivering an electrifying performance at the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival. The Grammy-winning British R&B artist showcased her talents just weeks after completing two sold-out shows in South Africa.
This performance serves as a prelude to her upcoming “Do You Still Love Me Tour,” which will commence on July 7 in Toronto. The tour will cover nearly 40 dates across major cities in the United States, Europe, and the U.K., featuring rising R&B artists Ama and Girlfriend as supporting acts. This marks Mai’s first tour since welcoming her baby son with NBA star Jayson Tatum.
During her set in Saint Lucia, Mai seamlessly transitioned between fan favorites like “She Don’t” and “Boo’d Up,” while also introducing songs from her forthcoming tour. “This is the first time that we’re doing a production; we want to step it up a bit,” she told Billboard after her performance. “Most of my shows thus far have concentrated on vocals. And not that we won’t be vocal heavy — because we absolutely will — but, with this album, I wanted to immerse people in my world a little bit more… This new album means so much to me that being able to share it alone is going to be incredible.”
In February, her album Do You Still Love Me? debuted at No. 44 on the Billboard 200 and reached No. 14 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, featuring Adult R&B radio hits “Tell Her” (No. 26) and “Little Things” (No. 19). The 14-track album, executive produced by Mustard, follows her previous release, Heart of My Sleeve, which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200.
The Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival showcased a strong R&B presence this year, with performances by Ella Mai, Tems, Brandy, and Monica. The lineup also included dancehall artists such as Dexta Daps, D’yani, and Valiant, highlighting R&B’s foundational role in their music. The genre is experiencing a resurgence, bolstered by last year’s crossover hits from Leon Thomas and Kehlani, as well as emerging projects from artists like Durand Bernarr and Jai’Len Josey.
“It’s just such a great time for the genre, and it’s incredible to see since it gets so much [flak],” Elle Mai remarked. “Nobody asks why today’s rock [music] doesn’t sound like the 90s… There’s a real R&B resurgence going on right now. And it’s always been there, actually; you just might have to look a bit harder than usual.”
