Edwin Hodge Joins Cast of CBS’s ‘Matlock’
Edwin Hodge, known for his roles in FBI: Most Wanted and Winning Time, has been cast as a guest star in Season 2 of CBS’s Matlock, a modern revival of the classic legal drama. This announcement comes from the show’s creator, Jennie Snyder Urman.
In his new role, Hodge will portray Langston, a charismatic character known for his ability to charm others despite his tardiness. With a double PhD in neuroscience and philosophy, Langston is portrayed as both a deep thinker and a smooth talker.
Hodge’s return to CBS follows his tenure as Special Agent Ray Cannon in FBI: Most Wanted, where he starred from Seasons 4 to 6. His casting will also reunite him on screen with Skye P. Marshall, who plays Olympia Lawrence in Matlock. The pair previously co-starred in the CBS medical drama Good Sam (2022), and they became real-life partners, marrying in 2024.
It remains unclear how often Langston will interact with Olympia, but his alluring traits suggest a potential romantic subplot that may interest viewers, particularly given Olympia’s recent single status.
In additional casting news, Sarah Wright Olsen and Henry Haber have also joined the acclaimed legal drama.
Matlock stars Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a savvy septuagenarian lawyer returning to a prestigious law firm. Matty teams up with Olympia, a senior attorney known for her determination and expertise. Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (portrayed by Jason Ritter), is fascinated by Matty’s sharp skills and cunning tactics.
The series is currently on hiatus, with plans to resume on CBS on February 26.
Hodge’s career includes notable roles, such as Dorian in The Tomorrow War with Chris Pratt and Ron Boone in HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. He will appear next in Amazon’s The Terminal List, also starring Pratt.
Additionally, Hodge is making strides as a producer. His sci-fi thriller, Parallel, marks the inaugural project from Hodge Brothers Productions, which he co-founded with his brother Aldis Hodge. This film tells the story of Vanessa, a woman dealing with grief who unexpectedly navigates between alternate realities. The brothers established their production company to elevate Black storytellers and diversify representation in various genres, particularly sci-fi.
Hodge has had recurring roles on notable TV series such as FX’s Mayans M.C., Apple TV’s For All Mankind, and NBC’s Chicago Fire. He is widely recognized for his leading performance in the Purge film franchise, being the only actor to appear in the first three installments. Hodge is represented by Vault Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
