Dylan Carter, a season 24 alum of The Voice, tragically died in a car accident on Saturday, April 25, in Colleton County, South Carolina. His passing was confirmed on Sunday by his non-profit organization, The Local Voice, in a statement shared on Facebook. Carter co-founded The Local Voice in 2024 to assist women battling breast cancer.
“With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician, and someone who meant so much to our community,” the organization stated. “Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day.”
Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. released a statement on Facebook on Sunday expressing his condolences. “Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident. As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events,” Hamilton wrote. “His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
Carter was scheduled to perform at Moncks Corner’s “Music on Main” event on Monday, which has since been canceled, as announced on Facebook.
At just 20 years old, Carter auditioned for The Voice and impressed the judges with his rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You,” earning turns from all four coaches. He chose this song as a tribute to his late mother, who passed away the previous year. Carter decided to join Team Reba but was eventually eliminated in the Battle rounds. McEntire paid tribute to Carter on her Instagram Story Monday.
“We will miss Dylan so much,” McEntire wrote. “He was a brilliant, kind, and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”
