Ducks Celebrate Fourth Straight Win Against Rangers
Ducks Triumph Over Rangers in 5-3 Victory
In a thrilling matchup on Monday night, the Anaheim Ducks secured a 5-3 win against the New York Rangers, highlighted by key contributions from several players. Alex Killorn broke a second-period tie, while newcomer Jeffrey Viel scored his first goal of the season.
Cutter Gauthier marked his 22nd birthday with two goals, including an empty-netter in the closing minutes, bringing his season total to 22 goals. Mason McTavish also added to the score for the Ducks, who have now claimed four consecutive wins following a challenging nine-game losing streak.
Goalie Lukas Dostal performed admirably, making 19 saves, including a crucial stop during a frantic late-game scramble when the Rangers enjoyed a two-man advantage for 21 seconds.
The Rangers found the scoreboard with goals from Matthew Robertson, Artemi Panarin, and Vladislav Gavrikov, with Spencer Martin stopping 21 shots in just his fourth NHL appearance this season. Martin, filling in for the sidelined Igor Shesterkin due to a lower-body injury, had previously ended a five-game losing streak with a solid performance in a 6-3 victory against Philadelphia.
Killorn put the Ducks ahead 3-2 with just under two minutes remaining in the second period, capitalizing on a rebound following a lengthy scramble for the puck behind the goal. Gauthier extended the lead to 4-2 just a minute into the third period, but Gavrikov responded for the Rangers on a power play at 7:11.
Viel’s goal tied the game 2-2 at 8:29 of the second period, making it a notable moment in his Ducks debut. Recently acquired from Boston for a 2026 fourth-round pick, Viel showcased his skills by converting a feed from Ryan Poehling.
With his earlier stint in Boston yielding no points and accumulating 30 penalty minutes over 10 games, Viel’s involvement with the Ducks has shown promise. In 66 career NHL games, he has recorded four goals, two assists, and amassed 188 penalty minutes.
Looking ahead, the Ducks will face the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night.
