North America’s Specialty Box Office Shines Over the Weekend
In a vibrant weekend for music films, Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined – Live in Mexico City and EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert secured the fourth and fifth spots at the North American specialty box office.
Trafalgar Releasing’s Twenty One Pilots concert film launched with a robust $3.7 million from 836 screens, including $2 million from 270 Imax locations following an exclusive Imax premiere. The film highlights a pivotal moment in the band’s career, showcasing their performance in front of 65,000 fans at Estadio GNP Seguros during the Clancy World Tour.
Blending cinematic performance with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, the film follows band members Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun as they prepare for their landmark show. It captures their journey from arrival in Mexico City to the electrifying moment they step onto the stage, enriched by personal reflections from the duo about their connection with fans.
Formed in 2009 in Columbus, Ohio, Twenty One Pilots originally included frontman Joseph along with Nick Thomas and Chris Salih, who departed in 2011 when Dun joined the band.
In second place, Baz Luhrmann’s documentary EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert grossed $3.5 million in its second week, bringing its total to $7.8 million after expanding to 1,940 screens. This docu-concert features previously unreleased footage from Presley’s iconic Las Vegas residency in the 1970s, alongside material from the Graceland archives and rediscovered recordings related to Luhrmann’s 2022 film Elvis. The film opened last weekend on 325 Imax screens, which contributed to its box office success.
