Donald Trump Discusses Melania’s Underwear at North Carolina Rally
During a rally in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on December 19, former President Donald Trump drew attention when he spoke about his wife Melania Trump’s undergarments. This unexpected tangent occurred as he discussed various topics, including inflation and strategies to lower drug prices ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
In his remarks, Trump reflected on the FBI raid of his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, which took place in August 2022. "They went into my wife’s closet … they looked at her drawers," Trump remarked. He emphasized Melania’s meticulous nature, stating, "Her undergarments, sometimes referred to as panties, are folded perfect, wrapped. They’re, like, so perfect." He added, "I think that she steams them."
This unusual subject matter was interspersed within a broader discussion on economic issues and public safety, setting the stage for the rally’s agenda while bringing personal anecdotes into the mix.
In August 2022, the FBI executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago during an investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents. This followed revelations earlier that year from the National Archives and Records Administration that officials had removed 15 boxes of documents from the property.
The warrant and property receipt were made public shortly after the raid, indicating that the FBI was gathering information related to potential violations of the Espionage Act. Among the items recovered were classified documents, some marked "top secret," which are intended for secure government facilities.
In June 2023, Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly mishandling classified documents after his presidency, marking a significant moment in American political history. He pleaded not guilty to all charges, and while an updated indictment added further counts, the case was dismissed in July 2024.
Trump has consistently faced legal challenges, including investigations related to payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign and his actions surrounding the January 6 Capitol riot.
