Dodgers Foundation Invites Compton Students to a Fun STEM Field Day
Dodgers Foundation to Host Annual STEM Field Day
The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) is set to hold its annual STEM Field Day on Monday, inviting over 500 students and participants from the Dodgers Dreamteam to Gonzales Park in Compton for an immersive experience in science activities related to baseball and softball.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dodgers Dreamfields complex, located at 1101 W. Cressey St., a venue that pays tribute to the legacy of Jackie Robinson and his family.
Students from the Los Angeles, Pasadena, Hawthorne, and Inglewood unified school districts will engage in a series of interactive stations designed to illustrate real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Activities planned for the day include calculating the geometry of the strike zone, studying wind resistance while running the bases, and examining sustainable practices within a baseball field. Participants will also have access to an outdoor classroom and an interactive STEM wall, both unique features of the Gonzales Park site.
“This event serves as a platform to showcase the profound connections between STEM and baseball and softball,” organizers stated.
The curriculum, crafted in collaboration with Science of Sport, aligns with Next Generation Science Standards and is delivered by trained educators prior to the event. Since its inception in 2018, more than 500 teachers have been trained, impacting over 100,000 youth through the program. The field day is designed as a culminating experience, reinforcing classroom lessons with hands-on learning.
Members of the Dodgers’ performance science team are expected to assist educators in leading the activities, while also introducing students to potential STEM-related career paths in sports. Scheduled speakers for the event include LADF Chief Operating Officer Chaitali Gala Mehta and Science of Sport Executive Director Daren Heaton.
Officials emphasized that the foundation has made significant strides, reaching millions of young people through its programs focused on education, health, and community development.
