Dodgers Bring in Left-Hander Eric Lauer from Blue Jays and Update Roster Following Injuries
The Los Angeles Dodgers bolstered their bullpen on Sunday by acquiring left-handed pitcher Eric Lauer from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations. This move comes amid the team’s struggles with recent pitching injuries.
Last week, the Blue Jays designated Lauer for assignment after he faced difficulties early in the season, allowing a league-leading 11 home runs over just eight appearances. This performance marks a stark contrast to his more effective outing in the previous season, where he posted a 3.18 ERA in the regular season and a 3.12 ERA during the postseason. Notably, he did not allow any runs against the Dodgers in two World Series appearances, which included 4 2/3 innings in Game 3.
To accommodate Lauer on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-hander Brusdar Graterol to the 60-day injured list as he continues to recover from right shoulder surgery.
The Dodgers recently faced further challenges when southpaw Blake Snell was placed on the injured list following elbow surgery to remove loose bodies. This prompted the team to adapt their roster in response to their pitching woes, culminating in a bullpen game on Friday.
In additional roster adjustments, the Dodgers placed left-hander Jack Dreyer on the 15-day injured list due to left shoulder discomfort. Imaging results indicated inflammation but no serious issues, and manager Dave Roberts expressed optimism that Dreyer would be able to return after a minimum stint. “He was warming up yesterday and then felt something in his shoulder, some soreness,” Roberts noted. “We just wanted to be proactive.”
Furthermore, left-hander Charlie Barnes was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, while the team recalled right-handers Paul Gervase and Chayce McDermott to strengthen their bullpen amid ongoing injury challenges.
