Diane Warren and Halle Bailey Collaborate on New Song for the Animated Film ‘The Crystal Planet’
Award-Winning Songwriter Diane Warren Teams Up with Halle Bailey for New Animated Film
Diane Warren, the celebrated songwriter and 17-time Academy Award nominee, has collaborated with Halle Bailey, star of The Little Mermaid, on a new song titled “Somewhere We All Belong.” This song is set to feature in the upcoming animated family sci-fi adventure, The Crystal Planet, which boasts an impressive voice cast, including Jeremy Irons, Vanessa Redgrave, and Michael York.
The announcement of the new song comes shortly after Warren received her latest Academy Award nomination for “Dear Me,” a personal composition that appears in her documentary Diane Warren: Relentless.
Directed by the acclaimed Croatian filmmaker Arsen Anton Ostojic, The Crystal Planet follows the journey of 11-year-old Rea, who relocates to a distant planet in an outer-space colony. While there, she befriends Burgy, a dinosaur-like cub separated from his mother by a mutant monster. Rea’s quest to reunite Burgy with his mother pits her against a ruthless industrialist who aims to exploit the creature for a robotic project.
The song’s development was revealed by Sola Media, which is actively promoting the film at the European Film Market (EFM).
Based on an original screenplay by the late Croatian animator Dušan Vukotić—who made history in 1962 as the first non-American to win an Academy Award for animation with his short film The Substitute—The Crystal Planet promises a heartfelt story.
“Diane Warren’s new song captures the emotional heart of The Crystal Planet in a truly powerful way,” Ostojic remarked. “Her music, combined with Halle Bailey’s voice, adds a timeless, universal quality that deepens the story and strengthens its message about compassion, coexistence, and finding where you belong.”
Solveig Langeland, Managing Director of Sola Media, emphasized Warren’s unique ability to create songs that resonate across cultures and generations. “Paired with Halle Bailey’s performance, this new song elevates The Crystal Planet as a cinematic family experience and further reinforces its appeal for the global market,” she noted.
The film’s production is spearheaded by Filmosaurus Rex, BFilm, and Alkay Animation Prague, which is recognized as one of the leading animation studios in the Czech Republic. Animation is supervised by Jakub Pištecký, notable for his work on films such as Rango, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Avengers. Alkay Animation Prague’s recent feature My Sunny Maad garnered the Jury Prize at Annecy and received a Golden Globe nomination.
The Crystal Planet is backed by several prominent European film organizations, including the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Czech Audiovisual Fund, Slovak Audiovisual Fund, Creative Europe/MEDIA, Eurimages, Czech Television, and Croatian Television.
