DHS Reports 10,000 Detentions in LA Since June
Los Angeles Reports Over 10,000 Immigration Arrests Since June
LOS ANGELES – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced this week that more than 10,000 immigration arrests have occurred in Los Angeles since June 2025. Among those apprehended, the agency claims, are individuals charged with serious offenses, including murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, and armed carjacking.
Despite the significant figures, critics have raised concerns regarding the clarity and legality of these operations. Ron Gochez, a representative of Union del Barrio, emphasized the need for scrutiny. "It might be true, we don’t know that 10,000 people have been apprehended in Los Angeles. We also have to remind people that doesn’t mean 10,000 people have been deported. Many of those people have been released," he stated, highlighting the ambiguity surrounding the agency’s data.
Gochez has previously vocalized concerns about ICE’s strategies, including a controversial operation in August known as "Operation Trojan Horse." During this initiative in Westlake, agents reportedly emerged from a moving truck to detain individuals in the area.
While DHS has not disclosed how many of the 10,000 arrests involved individuals with criminal records or how many resulted in deportations, the agency views the operations as a positive development in addressing criminal activity by undocumented immigrants. "We are doing targeted immigration enforcement operations against criminal illegal aliens. Individuals that are in that area may be detained until we identify who they are and then they are released," said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
As these operations continue, Gochez and other advocates remain critical, alleging that racial profiling is prevalent and even suggesting that some U.S. citizens have been unjustly detained due to their ethnicity. FOX11 has reached out to DHS for further clarification on the criminal records of those apprehended and is awaiting a response.
