Device Causes Temporary Closure of Atlantic Station on Metro E Line in East LA
Suspicious Item Found on Metro E Line Train Prompts Temporary Closure of Atlantic Station
Authorities temporarily closed Atlantic Station on Wednesday evening after a suspicious item was discovered on a Metro E Line train. The incident, reported at 7:32 p.m. in the 5100 block of Pomona Boulevard, sparked a swift response from law enforcement.
According to Deputy Dominguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Information Bureau, the device was located on the train at the station platform. In response, the Sheriff’s Department Arson and Explosives Detail launched an investigation, which led to the station’s closure being lifted at 10:40 p.m.
While the exact circumstances surrounding how deputies were alerted remain unclear, law enforcement officials noted that the report did not originate from a 911 call. Metro confirmed that the item was found on the E Line train and that, exercising caution, the agency notified the Sheriff’s Department, leading to the station’s temporary shutdown.
To ensure continued service for riders, bus shuttles were operational between the Atlantic and Civic Center stations during the closure.
