Denzel Perryman of the Chargers Faces Two-Game Suspension by the NFL
Denzel Perryman Suspended for Remainder of Regular Season
Los Angeles, CA – The Chargers will be without starting linebacker Denzel Perryman for the remainder of the NFL regular season following a two-game suspension handed down by the league. The suspension, effective immediately, is due to repeated violations of playing rules designed to ensure player health and safety, including a significant incident during a recent game against the Dallas Cowboys.
In the second quarter of Sunday’s match, Perryman was penalized for unnecessary roughness after making forcible contact to the helmet of Cowboys receiver Ryan Flournoy while he was on the ground. This action contravenes NFL regulations prohibiting the use of the helmet or facemask to initiate contact to an opponent’s head or neck area.
Following the suspension, Perryman will be eligible to return to the Chargers’ active roster on January 5, after the team’s Week 17 matchup against the Houston Texans and Week 18 game against the Denver Broncos.
Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, Perryman has the right to appeal the suspension. Any appeal will be reviewed and decided by one of three designated hearing officers: Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson.
Perryman’s absence could have a significant impact on the Chargers as they push for playoff positioning in the final stretch of the season.
