In the shared clip, Rucker, known for his hit “Wagon Wheel,” played solo with a microphone and guitar, dressed in a baseball cap and glasses. Passersby continued their routines, dining and conversing, with a festive Christmas tree in view behind him.
“Keep your head on a swivel!” Rucker cheekily remarked, tagging the original video taker, MaryCate McNamara, and adding two laughing emojis.
Reactions from fans online reflected a mix of disbelief and humor. One commented, “Sorry boss… flight’s delayed,” poking fun at the idea of missing a flight to enjoy the surprise concert.
Another fan asserted, “I don’t trust anyone in that airport who didn’t immediately stop and enjoy the show. I’d miss a flight over that opportunity!”
One particular comment celebrated the intimate nature of the performance: “I love this moment. You’re touching roots doing it for the craft. Fifteen people had a deeply special moment instead of with thousands. It all touches my heart,” expressed a fan.
Earlier this year, Rucker also made headlines when he announced his engagement to Emily Deahl. The Hootie & the Blowfish frontman proposed in South Carolina in October.
