Cubs Fan Tragically Killed in Hit-and-Run Incident in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES — José "Joey" Melesio, a 65-year-old Cubs fan, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident while visiting Los Angeles to catch a game against the Dodgers in late April.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on April 27 near the intersection of South Figueroa Street and West 75th Street in South Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Melesio was struck by a speeding sedan as he crossed the street. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.
In the wake of Melesio’s death, the community has come together to provide a $55,000 reward for any information leading to the identification and arrest of the driver. Melesio is remembered fondly for his dedication to his work in the maintenance industry and for caring for his 97-year-old mother.
As of May 10, authorities have not released the identity of the suspect, and investigations continue.
