Comedian Anjelah Johnson-Reyes is set to debut her seventh stand-up special, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes: Ugly Baby, on YouTube this Mother’s Day, May 10, at 12 p.m. PT.
Self-produced and self-financed, Ugly Baby marks Johnson-Reyes’ directorial debut and highlights her journey into motherhood at 40. The special delves into her personal struggles with fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum experiences, while also addressing universal themes such as relationships and generational shifts.
Filmed during two sold-out performances at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, the special is a collaboration between Johnson-Reyes’ Laugh On Beat and 800 Pound Gorilla. The project was executive produced by Johnson-Reyes alongside Manwell Reyes, Stephen Gordon Walker, and Jordan Levy.
Johnson-Reyes, a San Jose native, has seen significant success with her previous specials, Say I Won’t and Technically Not Stalking, which garnered over 8.6 million and 3.1 million views, respectively. Reflecting on her career, she stated, “I’m grateful that I’ve been able to do this 7 times. My boobs may be falling lower but at least my career continues to reach new heights, all thanks to my loyal fans that have been riding with me for so long. I hope you enjoy my most vulnerable hour yet!”
Recently, Johnson-Reyes completed The Family Reunion Tour, which included over 100 shows across major theaters in the United States. The tour sold more than 200,000 tickets, featuring sold-out performances at The Wiltern in Los Angeles and The Grove of Anaheim, among others.
In addition to her stand-up career, Johnson-Reyes has guest-starred in several television shows, including Life & Beth, Superstore, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Her film credits include Candy Cane Lane, Enough Said, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
