Colleen Hoover Provides Health Update Following Cancer Treatment
Author Colleen Hoover, known for her works such as It Ends with Us and Regretting You, has shared a significant update on her health after disclosing her recent cancer treatment. In a Facebook post, Hoover clarified misconceptions regarding her condition, stating, “Just clarification because of some misleading clickbait making it sound like I’m on my deathbed or something, but I do not have cancer anymore. I was diagnosed sometime last year, had surgery that was successful, just finished radiation yesterday.”
Hoover expressed her relief, affirming, “I am done and good and all is well and has been well. My doctors doctored. Hell yeah.”
The author initially revealed her diagnosis in December, though she did not specify the type of cancer. Last week, she noted that she was undergoing radiation therapy at Texas Oncology. In an Instagram Stories post, she remarked, “Second to last day of radiation,” adding humor about her treatment by praising the medical staff, urging followers, “Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them.”
Reflecting on her health journey, Hoover suggested that her cancer might have been influenced by environmental factors, including a “lack of exercise, poor diet, and stress.” She mentioned undergoing genetic testing, which excluded family genetics, HPV, and excessive hormones as potential causes.
In her candid style, Hoover remarked, “I’m happy and grateful to be alive but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating. I hate when science is right.” She continued, “If you see me at the gym, don’t even tell me good job. If you see me at a restaurant eating grilled chicken and drinking water, I’m probably real mad about it.”
Hoover revealed that she first noticed recurring health issues while filming Reminders of Him in Canada, but postponed addressing them until the project concluded. Upon returning home, she learned about her cancer diagnosis. “While it felt huge and scary for a bit, and I had to miss out on the Regretting You premiere and some other important career and personal moments, I just wasn’t ready to share with anyone until I knew what the outcome would be,” she explained.
Despite these challenges, Hoover remains optimistic. Her latest book, Woman Down, was released on January 13. However, she has not scheduled a book tour, stating, “I wanted to make this post and be transparent about why that is. I’m not saying I won’t be up to doing at least one signing, but I just won’t know until I know.”
Concluding her updates, Hoover emphasized the importance of listening to one’s body when something feels off and expressed gratitude for the support she received during her treatments. The film adaptation of her novel Reminders of Him is set to be released in theaters on March 13.
