Cillian Murphy Shares His Thoughts on the Future of ’28 Years Later’ and Clear Denial of Joining the ‘Harry Potter’ Series
Cillian Murphy recently addressed speculation regarding the future of the 28 Years Later franchise and rumors about his possible involvement in the upcoming Harry Potter series for HBO.
The Peaky Blinders star reprised his role as Jim in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and he confirmed that a sequel is in the pipeline. “Hope so!” Murphy told The Times when asked about the follow-up film, adding, “I’m ready anyway.”
Additionally, Murphy denied rumors suggesting he could portray Voldemort in the Harry Potter adaptation. “I’m categorically not,” he stated, expressing surprise at the speculation. He remarked on his discomfort with media attention, saying, “Being a personality is not what I am good at. But then existing in this world? Talking about yourself, going on f***ing red carpets? It’s not healthy if you start to believe this shit, and I’m really bad at it too. I’m an incredibly average person, really.”
The Harry Potter television series has announced its leading cast: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stour as Ron Weasley. Other notable cast members include Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, known for their work on Succession, will contribute to the series, with Gardiner serving as showrunner and executive producer, while Mylod will direct multiple episodes and also serve as an executive producer.
