Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena Shines Brightly with Hope This Holiday Season
Altadena Prepares for 105th Christmas Tree Lane Lighting Ceremony After Devastating Wildfires
Altadena is set to celebrate the return of its cherished Christmas Tree Lane, marking the landmark 105th lighting ceremony after the community endured the devastating effects of the January wildfires.
Known as the oldest lighting spectacle in the United States, Christmas Tree Lane features nearly a mile of twinkling cedars. This year’s festivities will symbolize resilience and hope as the community rallies together nearly a year after the tragic Eaton fire, which claimed the lives of 19 residents and resulted in the loss of approximately 6,000 homes.
On Saturday, December 6, Santa Rosa Avenue will transform into a dazzling display of holiday lights, inviting visitors to partake in a celebration that honors both loss and recovery. Volunteers from the Christmas Tree Lane Association are determined to ensure that this century-old tradition shines brightly with over 10,000 lights illuminating the path forward.
“It’s about healing,” said Jules McCulskey, 53, reflecting on the significance of reviving this beloved holiday event. “We will rebuild. We will celebrate life. We will keep our neighborhood traditions alive.”
The evening will include a special memorial ceremony to honor those lost in the Eaton Fire, alongside festive carolers, hot chocolate, and a visit from Santa Claus. Community involvement remains crucial, with volunteers still needed to help with the event.
The 105th Christmas Tree Lane lighting ceremony promises to be a heartfelt celebration of community spirit and resilience amid adversity.
