Chris Appleton Explains His $200K Haircut Fee for Kim Kardashian
Celebrity Hairstylist Reveals True Earnings: $200,000 per Job
Chris Appleton, renowned hairstylist to celebrities like Kim Kardashian, recently disclosed that he has charged up to $200,000 for his services, contradicting his earlier claim of a $100,000 maximum fee. In a candid appearance on the Great Company with Jamie Long podcast, Appleton stated, "I said 100 because I was afraid of what everyone would say. I said it, and then I was scared."
The 42-year-old stylist defended the hefty fee, noting that his work often encompasses travel and requires a significant time commitment. "There’s plenty of times I do work for free. There’s plenty of times I don’t get paid that amount of money," he explained.
Appleton further elaborated on the impact of taxes on his earnings, revealing that after accounting for the 50 percent tax rate in the U.S., along with agent and business management fees, his actual take-home income from such high-profile jobs is significantly reduced. "When you break it down, it’s not as much," he said.
Appleton’s high-profile clientele includes Kim Kardashian, for whom he styled hair at various significant events, including the Met Gala. However, he faced criticism from Kardashian for her 2022 Met Gala look. In a vlog, she remarked, “We had too much going on. You were doing every family member. We weren’t focused,” referencing the chaos surrounding the preparations for that day.
Despite the pressures of their collaboration, both Appleton and Kardashian appear to have a light-hearted rapport. In the same dialogue, Kardashian quipped, “Everyone f—ked up here. Let’s just say that,” showcasing her candidness regarding past styling decisions.
In summary, while Appleton’s revelations about his fees and the nature of his work provide insights into the financial complexities of the celebrity hairstyling profession, they also reflect a candid, humorous dynamic within his working relationship with Kardashian and others in the industry.
