Charli XCX’s latest track, “I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night,” explores romantic uncertainty and questions of sexuality. This song is released as the B-side to her recent single “Rock Music” on vinyl.
In a playful examination of her feelings, she sings, “I’m probably not,” while contemplating the idea that she could be gay. The lyrics suggest a curiosity about others, with Charli asking, “I’ve always wondered if you were actually gay/ Or if that’s somethin’ you just say for your career.”
The song hints at deeper desires, asking whether Charli wants to be with her muse. Accompanied by minimalist production, it runs just 1:32 and features a black-and-white video filmed in Kyoto. The video captures Charli sensually navigating a stairwell and rolling across a dance studio floor. The opening line references the mid-century French New Wave movement: “Maybe we could become each other/ Like somethin’ out of a Jacques Rivette movie or somethin’.”
Despite the ambiguity surrounding her obsession, the chorus emphasizes her feelings with repetition: “I keep thinkin’ ’bout you, every single day/ I keep thinkin’ ’bout you, every single night.” Charli is currently married to George Daniel of The 1975.
The announcement of the track came via Instagram on May 8, the day after the release of “Rock Music.” Charli shared the update on her secondary account, @b.sides, where she posts behind-the-scenes content.
In her Instagram post, she stated, “i keep on thinking bout you every single day and night’ the b side to rock music. i went to kyoto for six weeks to shoot a film. while we were there, i made this video with aidan. only available on vinyl & here on b.sides. so rip the audio if you want it xx.”
At the time of writing, the “Rock Music” 7” vinyl is sold out on Charli’s official webstore, though it notes participating record stores in the U.S., U.K., and France that will receive limited quantities.
Currently, “I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night” is exclusively available through Charli’s video on Instagram, as it is not yet on any streaming platforms.
