Saturday Night Live UK Takes a Lighthearted Jab at Nigel Farage with Special Appearance by Beloved British Comedian
SNL UK Takes Aim at Nigel Farage in Recent Satirical Sketch
In its seventh episode, SNL UK made a notable foray into political satire with a sketch featuring the controversial figure Nigel Farage, portrayed by British comedian Peter Serafinowicz. The cold open transported viewers to 2046, imagining a future where Farage serves as Prime Minister alongside a monarch referred to as ‘King Trump.’
The sketch began with Serafinowicz’s Farage downing a pint—a signature move for the real-life politician. The audience was soon introduced to his deputy, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, played by Ayoade Bamgboye. The humor relied heavily on social commentary, with the duo joking about mass deportations in London, hantavirus, and even a “straight pride march.”
Badenoch quipped, “King Trump assures us he has almost negotiated a ceasefire over the Strait of Hormuz,” showcasing the sharp wit that characterizes the series.
George Fouracres reprised his role as current Prime Minister Keir Starmer, alongside Angela Rayner, played by Celeste Dring. Together, they delivered jokes about Starmer’s uncertain future following disappointing local election results for the Labour Party.
This episode saw SNL UK hosted by Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, who humorously linked her Apple TV series to SNL UK. “Rich Americans working together, team spirit, and communal showers,” she remarked, referring to both shows, adding humorously about co-star Brett Goldstein’s hairy appearance.
The atmosphere at SNL UK is buoyant following recent news of the show’s renewal for a 12-episode second season, even before the current series has concluded. The cold open cleverly referenced this renewal, as Starmer read a newspaper headline announcing, “SNL UK Renewed… For Series 3,” prompting Rayner’s sarcastic comment, “Wow, a big delay. Series 2 must have been rough.”
With just one episode remaining in the inaugural season, anticipation builds as Ncuti Gatwa prepares to take the hosting reins next week.
