What You Need to Know
- Charli XCX appeared on stylist Nicky Campbell’s podcast, *Gloves Off*, on January 28 to discuss her past fashion choices.
- She recounted a fashion mishap at the 2015 Grammy Awards where pieces of her outfit fell onto Mary J. Blige.
- “I didn’t have the heart to either tell her or start picking it off her, and I just let it be,” said the *Brat* singer.
During a recent episode of Nicky Campbell’s podcast, Charli XCX reflected on her fashion history, including a memorable incident at the 2015 Grammy Awards where she inadvertently shared her ensemble’s fluff with fellow musician Mary J. Blige. Charli, 33, wore a striking white suit with pink embellishments complemented by a fluffy pink stole, which she later deemed “memorable… for all the wrong reasons.”
“I think it actually could’ve been better if I’d done different hair and makeup,” she noted, suggesting that a “completely clean” makeup look and “really neat” hair might have elevated the outfit. “But generally speaking, that’s just me, you know, trying to help myself out.”
Describing the chaos of her outfit during the ceremony, Charli added, “The fluffy thing was molting everywhere… Like, I was seated at the ceremony, and Mary J. Blige was in front of me. She was getting covered in pink fluff.”

Charli admitted to feeling reluctant to address the situation, stating, “I didn’t have the heart to either tell her or start picking it off her, and I just let it be.” After Campbell suggested she apologize, Charli took the opportunity to extend her regrets: “Mary J. Blige, I’m so sorry for ruining your outfit with my fluff.”
Charli’s attendance at the 2015 Grammy Awards marked a significant moment in her career as it coincided with her first nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for the hit collaboration “Fancy” with Iggy Azalea. That same year, Blige was nominated for Best Dance Recording with the Disclosure collaboration “F for You” and performed alongside Sam Smith.

Last year proved to be a notable one for Charli, as she garnered three Grammy Awards, including Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Recording Package for *Brat*, along with Best Dance Pop Recording for “Von Dutch.” Currently, Charli is busy with multiple projects, including the release of her mockumentary film *The Moment* and the upcoming soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of *Wuthering Heights* set to be released on February 13.
