20th Century Studios Celebrates 10th Anniversary of The Revenant with Theatrical Re-Release
In a significant move, 20th Century Studios is marking the 10th anniversary of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s acclaimed film The Revenant with a limited return to theaters. The film will be screened at Imax locations on Thursday, February 26, and Sunday, March 1, and will also be released internationally in countries including the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.
Released in 2015, The Revenant stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, grossing over $532 million worldwide. The film garnered critical acclaim, winning three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for DiCaprio, Best Director for Iñárritu, and Best Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki. The re-release aligns with DiCaprio’s recent Oscar nomination for his role in One Battle After Another.
The screenplay of The Revenant was co-written by Mark L. Smith, drawing inspiration from Michael Punke’s 2002 novel. Set in the 1800s, the narrative follows a frontiersman who endures a harrowing winter in the wilderness after being left for dead, leading him to seek revenge for his son’s murder.
Alongside DiCaprio and Hardy, the film features a robust supporting cast, including Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter, and Forrest Goodluck, among others. The film was produced by Steve Golin, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Arnon Milchan, and Mary Parent.
In conjunction with the anniversary celebration, a book titled The Making of The Revenant is set for release. This volume promises to provide readers with an in-depth exploration of the film’s challenging production, creative vision, and the raw elements that shaped it, featuring extensive behind-the-scenes photography and insights. It is positioned as an essential collector’s item for fans and cinephiles alike, reflecting one of modern cinema’s most uncompromising achievements.
