CBS Plans Live Special for ‘Artemis II Return to Earth’ and Adjusts Friday Primetime Schedule for West Coast Viewers
CBS News is set to air a live special titled Artemis II Return To Earth, capturing the crew’s return after a 10-day mission around the moon. The one-hour report is scheduled for Friday, April 10, from 7:30 to 8:30 PM ET on the CBS Television Network, CBS News 24/7, and CBSNews.com.
To accommodate this special, CBS has adjusted its primetime schedule for the evening. The start times for the programs Sheriff Country, Fire Country, and Boston Blue will be moved up by half an hour.
According to the revised schedule, Sheriff Country will air from 8:30 to 9:30 PM, followed by Fire Country at 9:30 PM and Boston Blue at 10:30 PM.
Jericka Duncan will anchor the special, featuring astronaut Suni Williams and Lt. Col. Dave Mahan in New York, along with CBS News correspondents Mark Strassmann and Bill Harwood in Houston, astronaut Nick Hague in Washington, D.C., and Carter Evans in San Diego.
During re-entry, the capsule will release its service module and descend toward Earth at speeds of 24,000 miles per hour. Starting from 12,000 feet, a series of 11 parachutes will deploy, gradually reducing the capsule’s speed from several hundred miles per hour to a controlled 17–20 mph ahead of its splashdown in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego.
The updated primetime lineup for the evening, with adjustments noted for the West Coast, is as follows:
- 7:30-8:30 PM CBS News Special Report
- 8:30-9:30 PM SHERIFF COUNTRY
- 9:30-10:30 PM FIRE COUNTRY
- 10:30-11:30 PM BOSTON BLUE
