Callum Vinson Joins the Cast as Atreus in the New Prime Video Series of ‘God Of War’
Callum Vinson Cast as Atreus in Prime Video’s Adaptation of God of War
God of War has officially cast its Atreus. Callum Vinson, known for his roles in Chucky and Long Bright River, will portray the character in Prime Video’s adaptation of the popular video game, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Atreus, the 10-year-old son of Kratos, played by Ryan Hurst, is depicted as having grown up in a secluded forest cabin with his mother, Faye. Following her death, he faces the challenges of connecting with his estranged father while navigating a world that is both harsh and mysterious. Desiring his father’s approval, Atreus strives to demonstrate his strength and resilience.
The series, developed by writer and showrunner Ronald D. Moore, also known for Outlander and For All Mankind, follows the journey of Kratos and Atreus as they seek to spread Faye’s ashes. Through their travels, they confront the challenges of parental roles, with Kratos endeavoring to teach his son about godhood and Atreus helping Kratos explore the meaning of humanity.
God of War has secured a two-season order, with pre-production currently underway in Vancouver.
Vinson joins a cast that includes previously announced actors such as Max Parker as Heimdall, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Executive producers include Moore, Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon, with Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis serving as co-executive producers. Frederick E.O. Toye, known for his work on Shōgun and The Boys, will direct the first two episodes.
This role marks Vinson’s third project with Sony Pictures Television. He is also set to appear in the upcoming third season of Netflix’s The Night Agent and has previously starred in Peacock’s Long Bright River. Recently, he completed filming for the lead role of Jason Voorhees in the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel, Crystal Lake. Vinson has also played a series regular in Season 3 of Chucky and appeared in the film Coup!. He is represented by Rebel Creative Group and Innovative Artists.
