CAA Leads in Mentions for The Black List 2025 Scorecards, While Kaplan/Perrone and Untitled Share the Spotlight
For the fifth consecutive year, CAA has emerged as the agency with the most mentions on The Black List, an annual compilation showcasing Hollywood’s most highly regarded unproduced screenplays. In the management sector, Kaplan/Perrone and Untitled Entertainment have tied for the top position.
CAA received 12 mentions for its scripts, while both Kaplan/Perrone and Untitled Entertainment garnered seven each. Notably, Untitled Entertainment also led management companies in last year’s rankings.
Leading the pack, Matisse Haddad’s screenplay Best Seller received 48 mentions. Set in New York’s literary world, the story follows a struggling writer, who, under pressure from her famous novelist husband to start a family, writes a tell-all article that goes viral. This act ignites a perilous struggle involving seduction, manipulation, and betrayal. The Independent Artist Group and Bellevue Productions represent Haddad, with Peter Rice and Jason Reitman attached to produce the film.
Kaplan/Perrone’s top-ranked script, Fixation, by Siena Butterfield and Erika Vázquez, received 25 mentions. It tells the story of a couples’ therapist ensnared in a dangerous love triangle after beginning an affair with a stranger—who is ultimately the husband of her new client. The erotic thriller has garnered attention after landing at New Regency this past August, with Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories set to produce.
Untitled Entertainment’s standout scripts, Building Bowie by Alan Fox and an Untitled Erotic Teen Fan Fiction Movie from Morgan Lehmann, each received 23 mentions.
In terms of agency rankings, Verve followed CAA with eight mentions. On the management side, Bellevue Productions, Range Media Partners, and Artists First each secured second place with five mentions.
This year’s Black List features a total of 74 scripts from 86 writers, chosen by nearly 500 film executives. Among the selected writers, six did not have representation: Greg Levine (Flamer), Richard Martin (Geezers), Lauren Kilbride (Sister), Trevor James (Heartland Express), Noah Sellman (Last Stop in the Desert), and Jacob Marx Rice (The Valley of Hinom).
