Burglary in Encino: Home Ransacked, Valuables Stolen
In a disturbing continuation of recent crime trends in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, burglars targeted an Encino home Sunday night, breaking a window and ransacking the property.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), officers responded to a burglary call around 8:30 p.m. in the 17700 block of Corinthian Drive. The homeowner, who was away at the time, captured footage of the suspect fleeing through the front door via security cameras.
Upon arrival, police discovered the home had been entered through a smashed window, with various valuables strewn throughout the property. The homeowner returned to find officers on the scene.
The thief made off with a watch and several purses, placing the estimated loss at over $50,000. As of Monday morning, no arrests had been reported.
In light of increasing home burglaries, the LAPD has emphasized the importance of safety measures for homeowners. Recommendations include:
- Installing locks on gates and fences.
- Ensuring doors and windows are secured.
- Utilizing security cameras around the property.
- Bolting safes to the floor, as burglars may use crowbars to pry them from walls.
- Scheduling package deliveries for times when residents are home or asking neighbors to retrieve them.
- Storing valuables securely and avoiding leaving items like jewelry exposed.
- Reporting suspicious activity or people in the neighborhood to the police.
The ongoing string of burglaries has raised concerns among local residents, prompting law enforcement to encourage vigilance in safeguarding homes.
