Burglar Caught in Torrance While Attempting to Install Hidden Cameras
Torrance Police Arrest Two in Attempted Home Surveillance Scheme
Two individuals were apprehended in Torrance after attempting to install surveillance cameras, potentially to monitor and burglarize local homes, police reported on Friday.
The incident began when a Torrance Police Department officer, patrolling the vicinity of Iris Avenue and 227th Street, observed a car parked suspiciously. The vehicle, described as being "abruptly parked," raised immediate concern.
Upon further investigation, additional officers arrived at the scene and discovered that one suspect was covered with fresh foliage, presumably to conceal his identity while setting up hidden cameras intended for residential thefts.
Both individuals were taken into custody. They face charges including probable cause burglary, possession of burglary tools, and conspiracy. Authorities noted that one suspect had multiple outstanding warrants from North Carolina for various offenses, including theft, conspiracy, and financial crimes.
This arrest highlights ongoing concerns in Torrance, which experienced a significant number of burglaries last year linked to South American crime groups. These groups are known to install surveillance equipment to monitor homeowners’ routines and vulnerabilities. Reports of hidden cameras have also surfaced in neighboring cities, including West Covina, Arcadia, Garden Grove, and Alhambra, where residents have described finding cameras disguised with mesh and fake grass.
The Torrance Police Department is urging anyone with further information regarding this incident to reach out directly to their office at (310) 328-3456.
