Britney Spears Arrested on Suspected DUI Charges in Ventura County
LOS ANGELES – Pop superstar Britney Spears was taken into custody Wednesday night in Ventura County, California, after officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) observed her allegedly driving erratically near her home.
The incident commenced around 9:30 p.m. when dispatchers received reports of a black BMW driving "in and out of lanes" on the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park. According to leaked dispatch audio, an officer noted the vehicle’s erratic behavior and called for multiple units to intercept the driver.
Upon being pulled over, Spears, 44, who was driving alone, exhibited signs of impairment and underwent a series of field sobriety tests. Officers later summoned a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) for specialized assessments before deciding to impound her vehicle.
Spears was eventually taken to a local hospital, where a blood sample was drawn to assess her intoxication level. She was booked into a pre-trial detention facility at approximately 3:02 a.m. PT Thursday and released three hours later.
A representative for Spears, Cade Hudson, addressed the situation, stating, "This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable." He added that Spears intends to "take the right steps and comply with the law," expressing hope that this incident could pave the way for necessary change in her life.
As of now, the specific substances involved remain unidentified, and chemical test results are pending. It is unclear whether charges will be formally filed by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office ahead of Spears’ scheduled court date on May 4.
This arrest follows a notable week for Spears, who recently sold her music rights after a trip to Los Cabos, Mexico. Additionally, she had been granted a permanent restraining order against an individual she accused of stalking her since 2013.
The scenario unfolds amid Spears’ ongoing journey of personal recovery after the termination of her court-ordered conservatorship in 2021. Her representative mentioned plans for her loved ones to develop a strategy aimed at securing her well-being moving forward.
Transitioning from a tumultuous past, Spears’ latest developments continue to attract significant public interest, reflecting both her remarkable career and her struggle for personal autonomy.
