Brendan Fraser Takes on Lead Role in Cosmic Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Starman’
Oscar-winning actor Brendan Fraser is set to star in the upcoming cosmic sci-fi thriller Starman, directed and written by Emmy-winning filmmaker Josh Wakely. The film is based on an original screenplay crafted by Wakely.
In Starman, Fraser will portray Tom Adams, a visionary technologist who embarks on a groundbreaking expedition to Mars. Positioned at the forefront of humanity’s journey into space, Adams’s mission takes a dramatic turn when unforeseen events force him into a race against time—driven not only by the urge to survive, but also by love.
The project is being produced by Grace: A Storytelling Company, with Eddie Vaisman of Sight Unseen also taking a significant role in the production. Vaisman recently collaborated with Fraser on the film Rental Family. Josh Wakely and Rebecca Graham will serve as producers alongside executive producers David S. Goyer, Tarek Sherif, Ryan Graves, and Julia Lebedev from Sight Unseen.
Filmmakers Sherif and Graves are financing the project, which is scheduled to begin production this summer.
Anton plans to launch sales for Starman at the Marché du Film in Cannes, providing further details about the film.
Brendan Fraser recently garnered acclaim for his role in Darren Aronofsky’s 2022 film The Whale, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He is also set to appear in Pressure, where he will portray President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and in Andy Garcia’s film Diamond, alongside Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray, which will premiere at Cannes. Fraser will also return to his iconic role in the fourth installment of The Mummy franchise, reuniting with Rachel Weisz.
Wakely, founder of Grace: A Storytelling Company, has previously secured life rights to Muhammad Ali for an Amazon scripted series titled The Greatest. He is also known for creating two Emmy-winning animated series at Netflix, Beat Bugs and Motown Magic.
