Wednesday’s High School Volleyball Quarterfinal Results
In a series of thrilling matchups on Wednesday, high school volleyball teams showcased their skills in the City Section and Southern Section quarterfinals.
City Section Quarterfinals
In the Open Division, top-seeded Granada Hills narrowly defeated eighth-seeded Carson in a hard-fought match, with scores of 23-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, and 15-10. Fourth-seeded Venice also progressed, securing a 3-1 victory over fifth-seeded LA Marshall (25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19). Third-seeded Chatsworth claimed victory against sixth-seeded Wilmington Banning with scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 26-24. Second-seeded Palisades put on a dominant performance to defeat seventh-seeded Eagle Rock, winning 25-16, 25-13, and 25-20.
Southern Section Quarterfinals
In Division 3, Palos Verdes advanced by defeating Valencia 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 26-24). Meanwhile, Santa Ana Foothill triumphed over Servite with a 3-1 win. Windward also secured victory against Crescenta Valley, finishing the match 25-18, 28-26, 23-25, 25-21.
In Division 4, Village Christian and Royal both secured wins, with Village Christian defeating Chino Hills 3-0 and Royal overcoming Temple City 3-1. Sunny Hills narrowly defeated Northwood 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-16), while Crossroads edged past San Marino, concluding the match with scores of 25-16, 27-29, 25-21, and 25-22.
In Division 5, El Dorado achieved a 3-0 victory over Dos Pueblos, and Bishop Diego triumphed against Brea Olinda after a five-set battle (23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-10). Bellflower defeated Flintridge Prep in straight sets, while Western Christian won against St. Anthony.
Division 6 saw Temecula Valley, Culver City, Garden Grove, and Pasadena Poly all secure victories, with each team winning by a score of 3-1 or 3-2. Division 7 featured closely contested matches, with Rialto, Foothill Tech, Oakwood, and Tustin all emerging victorious, each winning in five sets.
In Division 8, Temescal Canyon won decisively against Santa Rosa Academy while CAMS and West Valley both achieved wins, as did Palmdale Aerospace against Glendale Adventist.
Division 9 concluded with Tarbut V’Torah and Vasquez gaining victories, while Le Lycée claimed a tight match against YULA, advancing with a score of 3-2.
Looking Ahead
Thursday’s schedule features several matches at 7 p.m. in the City Section quarterfinals, including a showdown between ninth-seeded East Valley and top-seeded Taft, and fifth-seeded VAAS against fourth-seeded North Hollywood.
In Division III, various matches are set for 4 p.m., leading up to crucial second-round matchups, while the quarterfinals for Divisions III-V are planned for May 11, followed by semifinals and finals scheduled in mid-May.
