Blumhouse and Atomic Monster Team Up to Create a New Comic Series, ‘The Exorcism At 1600 Penn,’ Featuring Hannah Rose May
Blumhouse-Atomic Monster to Adapt ‘The Exorcism at 1600 Penn’ for Film
Blumhouse-Atomic Monster is set to develop a film adaptation of The Exorcism at 1600 Penn, a comic book series created and written by Hannah Rose May. This engagement signals a significant venture for both the studio and the acclaimed writer.
The Exorcism at 1600 Penn, published by IDW Publishing, is a supernatural thriller that unfolds at one of the most iconic addresses in the United States. The narrative centers on the first female president, who navigates intense political challenges, the looming threat of global conflict, and the complexities of motherhood amid a turbulent media landscape.
The comic book features artwork by Vanesa Del Rey and has a sequel, The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace, currently in circulation. Jason Blum will produce the film, with Ryan Turek serving as executive producer alongside Hannah Rose May and IDW Publishing CEO Davidi Jonas.
Expressing her enthusiasm, May stated, “Getting to work with Blumhouse to bring THE EXORCISM AT 1600 PENN to the big screen feels like a dream come true. Blumhouse has defined modern horror for a generation, and I could not be more excited to be working with them on this adaptation. I am so grateful to my incredible partners at IDW for their tireless work to share this story with audiences around the world.”
An Irish writer, May is known for her character-driven storytelling. She is also the creator of Rogues’ Gallery (Image Comics) and The Guy in the Chair (Dark Horse). Currently, she is working on a prequel to Smile for IDW, in collaboration with director Parker Finn and Paramount, with a release set for mid-February. In addition to her writing, May has appeared in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and CBS’s Ghosts.
Blumhouse-Atomic Monster has a busy release schedule this year, with Lee Cronin’s The Mummy debuting on April 17, followed by Insidious: The Bleeding World on August 21, and Other Mommy on October 9. Additionally, Atomic Monster will release Mortal Kombat II through Warner Bros. on May 8, and Focus Features is set to unveil the Blumhouse-produced Obsession from Curry Barker on May 15.
Hannah Rose May is represented by Verve, Luber Roklin, and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
