Bill Dubuque’s Crime Drama ‘M.I.A.’ Premieres on Peacock with Exciting First-Look Images
New Crime Thriller ‘M.I.A.’ Set to Debut on Peacock May 7
Peacock is set to launch its latest crime thriller, M.I.A., created, written, and produced by Bill Dubuque, on May 7. The six-episode season will offer viewers a gripping narrative, with each episode lasting approximately one hour.
The cast of M.I.A. features Shannon Gisela as Etta Tiger Jonze, alongside Cary Elwes, Danay Garcia, Brittany Adebumola, Dylan Jackson, Alberto Guerra, Maurice Compte, Gerardo Celasco, and Marta Milans. The series centers around Jonze, whose family’s drug-running business faces imminent dangers, pushing her into a perilous new life within Miami’s criminal underworld.
- M.I.A. holds a unique distinction as one of the few productions set and filmed in Miami. Unlike other recent shows, such as MGM+’s Hotel Cocaine, Netflix’s Griselda, and Showtime’s Dexter, which utilized locations in the Dominican Republic and California as substitutes for Miami, this series remains firmly rooted in its intended locale. This production choice addresses the challenges posed by high production costs and a lack of state incentives that have historically hampered filming in Florida.
Notably, prior series filmed in Miami include the original Miami Vice, USA Network’s Burn Notice, HBO’s Ballers, and Starz’s Magic City. While the Dexter prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, included some Miami scenes, most of its filming took place in Los Angeles.
The series will be helmed by showrunner, writer, and executive producer Karen Campbell, with Althea Jones directing the first two episodes. Other directors contributing to the series include Gwyneth Horder-Payton, Marizee Almas, Ben Semanoff, and John Dahl. Production is overseen by MRC, with distribution handled by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
