Barry Manilow Provides Update Following Lung Cancer Diagnosis
Barry Manilow is sharing a positive message after revealing his recent lung cancer diagnosis. The 82-year-old Grammy-winning singer announced the news in late December, stating that doctors had discovered cancer in one of his lungs, a condition that prompted him to postpone concerts scheduled for January in order to pursue treatment.
On January 2, Manilow took to Instagram, posting a cheerful selfie from what appears to be a hospital bed, dressed in a medical gown. The accompanying gray message bubble simply stated, “Better today!”
In the statement announcing his diagnosis, Manilow explained the events leading up to the MRI that ultimately detected the cancerous spot. “As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks. Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK,” he wrote. “The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”
Manilow revealed that he would be undergoing surgery to remove the cancer. “The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis,” he stated. “So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”
Apologizing to fans for the postponement of his January shows, Manilow expressed his eagerness to return to the stage. “In the meantime, I’m counting the days until I return to my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts on February 12-13-14 and throughout 2026,” he said, predicting an energetic reunion for that weekend. “Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!”
He concluded his message by wishing fans a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, encouraging them to prioritize their health. “And remember, if you have even the slightest symptom… get tested!” he urged.
