Aziz Ansari Delivers a Hilarious Take as FBI Director Kash Patel in SNL’s Cold Open
“In summary, war is awesome!”
During a recent segment of Weekend Update, co-host Michael Che, referencing former Fox News host Kash Patel, humorously remarked, “Okay, everyone’s always asking me, when is this war gonna be over? That’s like asking, when is sex gonna be over? Answer, when the man is done.”
Adding to the comedic exchange, Aziz Ansari took the stage, striking a playful pose as he embraced his role as Patel. He quipped, “the first Indian person to suck at his job!”

In his bit, Ansari continued, “Everyone says Indian people are smart, hard working, incredibly intelligent. I prove without a shadow of a doubt that we can be just as incapable and incompetent as the whites.”
Responding to inquiries from a group of SNL cast members impersonating journalists, the often-controversial Patel asserted, “Hell, no! President Trump loves me. Everybody loves me, even the Correspondents Dinner shooter said, ‘Kill everyone, but Mr. Patel.’ You get a shout out like that in a psycho’s manifesto, you must be doing something right.”
This exchange took place during the cold open of SNL, highlighting the program’s witty and often provocative humor.

The episode followed a tumultuous week marked by tensions surrounding the recently concluded 2026 White House Correspondents Dinner, ongoing criticisms from the Trump family directed at Jimmy Kimmel, and news regarding ABC’s early license renewals. Additionally, the debut of the highly anticipated Devil Wears Prada 2 added another layer of cultural context for the show.
SNL’s lineup featured the comedic trio of Che, Jost, and guest Ansari, delivering a performance that resonated with audiences.
As the 51st season approaches its conclusion, NBC’s late-night staple prepares for a compelling finale. Olivia Rodrigo is set to host and perform as the musical guest in the next episode. This marks Rodrigo’s debut as a host, following two previous appearances as a musical guest. Her latest single, “Drop Dead,” has reached the number one spot, and she has a new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, slated for release next month, accompanied by a world tour later this year.
Next week’s episode will entertain fans with appearances from Matt Damon and musician Noah Kahan. The season finale on May 16 will feature SNL alum Will Ferrell alongside rising star Paul McCartney, marking a celebratory conclusion to another successful year of the show.
