Avalanche Takes a Strong 3-0 Lead Over Kings in Latest Match
Avalanche Prevail Over Kings, Take Commanding 3-0 Series Lead in Playoffs
The Colorado Avalanche solidified their dominance this postseason with a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, taking a significant 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven first-round playoff series. The Avalanche’s offensive prowess was showcased through goals from Gabriel Landeskog, Cale Makar, Artturi Lehkonen, and Brock Nelson.
The Kings face a critical moment, having lost their last six first-round playoff series. With their season on the line, they will seek a home victory on Sunday. Trevor Moore and Adrian Kempe provided the Kings’ goals during Game 3, but it was not enough to overcome Colorado’s resilience.
Scott Wedgewood, the Avalanche’s goaltender, continued his outstanding form, recording 24 saves to keep the Kings just one game away from elimination. In contrast, Anton Forsberg, making his playoff debut for Los Angeles, delivered a commendable performance despite being hindered by two unexpected goals.
In the first period, Colorado caught a fortunate break when Landeskog’s shot from the blue line deflected off the end boards and into the net off Forsberg’s skate. This marked Landeskog’s second goal in as many games.
The Kings responded in the second period with a goal from Moore, who capitalized on a misplayed puck. However, the Avalanche quickly regained the lead when Makar fired a wrist shot through traffic from the point, finding the back of the net.
The Avalanche extended their lead in the final period when Lehkonen scored a short-handed goal after a mishap in the Kings’ defensive zone. Kempe brought the Kings within one with a tip-in goal, but the comeback effort fell short when Nelson sealed the game with an empty-net tally.
Overall, the six goals scored matched the total from the first two games of the series.
Despite a struggling power play ranked 30th in the league during the regular season, the Kings successfully thwarted all nine of Colorado’s power plays in this matchup. However, their offense has struggled against Wedgewood, managing only four goals in the series—three from power plays and one deflected off Moore.
As the series continues, the Avalanche’s blend of skill and stellar goaltending poses a significant challenge for the Kings, who must regroup quickly to avoid playoff elimination.
