Austin Nichols Returns for Season 2 of USA Network’s ‘The Rainmaker’
EXCLUSIVE: Austin Nichols has been cast in Season 2 of USA Network’s The Rainmaker, in which he will portray Bruiser’s (Lana Parilla) ex-husband. Nichols’ character is a minor league baseball coach and former player who becomes embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy.
The Rainmaker is based on John Grisham’s best-selling novel and follows Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan), a fresh law school graduate who faces off against courtroom titan Leo Drummond (John Slattery) and his law school girlfriend, Sarah (Madison Iseman). Together with Bruiser and her unkempt paralegal Deck (P. J. Byrne), Rudy uncovers two conspiracies linked to the mysterious death of their client’s son.
The cast of the first season also featured Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs, and Robyn Cara.
Details about the plot for the upcoming season will be announced later.
The show was renewed in October after its first season averaged 1.3 million viewers. Its finale became the most-watched episode of the season and marked The Rainmaker as USA Network’s most-viewed freshman series in the past seven years across all platforms.
Produced by Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television, The Rainmaker is led by showrunner Michael Seitzman, with John Grisham, Patrick Moran, Jason Richman, David Gernert, and Jason Blum serving as executive producers.
Nichols recently appeared as Pastor Judah in the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) and in Netflix’s The Six Triple Eight (2024), directed by Tyler Perry. His notable film credits include Glory Road (2006), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), Wimbledon (2004), The Informers (2008), Beautiful Boy (2010), and Parkland (2013). He made his directorial debut with The Salamander King last year.
On television, Nichols has featured in several series, including HBO Max/Starz’s Minx, CW’s Walker, Sundance Channel’s This Close, NBC’s The Village, A&E’s Bates Motel, and AMC’s The Walking Dead. He is represented by CESD Talent Agency and Strand Entertainment.
