Ashton Kutcher Shares Experience of Being Let Go by Gucci Over Weight Concerns
Ashton Kutcher Recalls Being Fired by Gucci for Weight
In a recent interview, Ashton Kutcher revealed that he was dismissed from a Gucci modeling gig due to weight issues. The actor recounted the incident while discussing his formative years in the fashion industry with Entertainment Tonight.
Kutcher, who weighed 178 pounds at the time, flew to Italy for a runway show under then-designer Tom Ford. He recalled, “And I showed up, I flew to Italy for the runway show, and he puts me in, like, a pink Speedo.” However, Ford quickly decided that Kutcher was “too fat,” leading to his firing.
Despite the setback, Kutcher expressed that he and Ford now look back on the situation with humor. “I laugh with him about it now,” Kutcher shared, noting the absurdity of being deemed too heavy at that weight. “I was like, ‘Dude, I was 178 lbs! Like, what are you talking about?’”
The actor defended Ford’s decision, explaining, “He had a specific thing that he wanted.” Kutcher acknowledged that it was simply a matter of not fitting the designer’s vision at that moment.
Reflecting on his experiences in modeling, Kutcher emphasized that everyone, even models, struggles with insecurities. “What I realized really quickly was that everybody had an insecurity,” he stated. “It didn’t mean I was less, but it just meant that I wasn’t that for him for that moment.”
As for the present, Kutcher, now 47, stars in the upcoming FX series “The Beauty,” which explores themes of beauty and mortality. He also praised his ex-wife, Demi Moore, for her performance in her recent movie, The Substance, acknowledging her extraordinary accolades, including an Oscar nomination.
As his journey in the entertainment industry continues, Kutcher’s experiences serve as a reminder of the pressures and judgments that persist, even within the realm of celebrity.
