Arrest Made in Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash in Playa del Rey
LOS ANGELES – Authorities have announced an arrest related to a tragic hit-and-run crash that claimed the lives of a 25-year-old man and his 1-year-old son over the weekend in Playa del Rey.
The incident, which involved two vehicles, occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, near Vista del Mar, south of Culver Boulevard. First responders arrived on the scene to find that the suspect had already fled. However, law enforcement confirmed on Wednesday that a suspect was taken into custody that morning.
The victims have been identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office as Osvaldo Sandoval Amaya, 25, and his son, Roger Sandoval Farias, just 1 year old. Additionally, three other individuals were hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash. Among them was a 30-year-old woman, with two victims reported to be in critical condition, including another passenger of the BMW involved in the collision.
While local residents expressed concerns about high-speed incidents in that area, investigators have yet to determine whether speed or alcohol played a role in this particular crash. As of now, the name of the suspect has not been released, and authorities continue to investigate the official cause of the accident.
