Antelope Valley Fire Prompts Evacuation Alerts and Shelter-in-Place Recommendations
Fast-Moving Fires Across Antelope Valley Prompt Evacuation Warnings
A series of fast-moving fires in Antelope Valley have led to evacuation warnings this Saturday, fueled by high winds.
The "Corral Fire" ignited around noon near 110th Street West and West Avenue East in Lancaster. The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that the fire rapidly expanded to 130 acres before containment efforts succeeded around 2 p.m.
The fire department noted on social media, “At approximately 12:05 p.m., #LACoFD responded to fire in the area. Forward process stopped at 2:01 p.m., holding at 130 acres.”
In response to the fires, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order and evacuation warnings for surrounding areas. Road closures were implemented on West Avenue K at Sierra Vista Drive and Yew Street to enhance safety.
A second blaze, dubbed the "Grand Fire," erupted near 50th Street East and East Avenue H around 2 p.m. This fire reached 60 acres before its forward progress was halted just after 4 p.m.
The exact causes of both fires remain under investigation as crews continue to manage the situation.
