Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson Star in the Gripping Trailer for Colleen Hoover’s ‘Verity’ Adaptation
Amazon MGM Studios has released the first teaser for Verity, an adaptation of the bestselling psychological thriller by Colleen Hoover, known for her previous work It Ends with Us.
Set to premiere in theaters on October 2, the film features Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. The story follows Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer tasked with completing a successful book series after the original author, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), becomes incapacitated. As Lowen delves into the Crawford home, she becomes intertwined with Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) and stumbles upon an unfinished manuscript that could expose unsettling truths about Verity.
While a trailer was previously shown at CinemaCon, the new teaser offers a different glimpse into the film. It opens with Lowen entering the darkened Crawford home, where Verity lies ill in bed. The scene shifts as Jeremy begins a hopeful connection with Lowen, only to reveal in a twist that Verity herself is somehow part of the intimate encounter.
In a chilling moment, Verity warns Lowen, “Even with my generous warning, you’re going to continue to ingest my words. But know one thing: there is no light where we’re going. Darkness ahead.”
Directed by Michael Showalter, who has collaborated with Hathaway on previous projects such as the rom-com The Idea of You, Verity also stars Ismael Cruz Córdova and Brady Wagner.
This film adds to a growing list of adaptations of Hoover’s work, following the success of Sony’s It Ends with Us, which grossed over $351 million worldwide amidst a legal dispute involving key creatives Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Paramount quickly followed with Regretting You, starring Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Mason Thames, which earned over $90 million. Additionally, Universal’s Reminders of Him, featuring Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers, garnered more than $84 million earlier this year.
