Andy Garcia’s Noir Film ‘Diamond’ Gains Traction at Cannes with Veteran Sales
Andy Garcia’s Noir Film Diamond to Premiere at Cannes
Diamond, a star-studded noir film directed by Andy Garcia, has secured international sales representation by The Veterans ahead of its world premiere in the Out of Competition category at the Cannes Film Festival.
Set in contemporary Los Angeles, the film presents a blend of modern storytelling with classic noir elements. Garcia plays Joe Diamond, a character shrouded in urban legend and burdened by a traumatic past. His remarkable skill lies in solving crimes that baffle the LAPD, utilizing a blend of sharp wit and the savvy often associated with traditional gumshoe detectives.
After nearly 15 years in development, Garcia not only directs but also wrote the film, describing it as a tribute to Los Angeles and a homage to the iconic noir films of the past. This project marks his third feature directorial effort following the 1993 documentary Cachao… Como Su Ritmo No Hay Dos and 2005’s The Lost City.
Garcia has assembled an impressive cast that includes Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), and Rosemarie DeWitt (La La Land). The film also reunites him with former co-stars Bill Murray (Lost in Translation) and Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man), both of whom appeared in The Lost City.
Additional cast members feature Demián Bichir, Danny Huston, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Yul Vazquez, Robert Patrick, and Rachel Ticotin, showcasing a diverse range of talent.
Garcia last attended the Cannes Film Festival with Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007, and his film Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead was featured in the Un Certain Regard section in 1995.
International sales for Diamond will be managed by Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s The Veterans, while CAA Media Finance oversees the North American rights.
Produced by Jai Stefan for Shrink Media, alongside Frank Mancuso Jr. and Paul Soriano of Black Cap Pictures and TEN17P, the film received financing from Black Cap Pictures and Nexis Entertainment. Executive producers include Simon Heo and Nikki Romero, alongside Marco Vicini and Fernando Tsai for Oscura Film.
In addition to Diamond, The Veterans is also present at Cannes with James Gray’s Palme d’Or contender Paper Tiger, as well as upcoming projects like Jean-François Richet’s Mutiny, starring Jason Statham, and Takashi Miike’s latest film featuring Charli XCX and Milly Alcock.
