Anastacia may be out of love, but she certainly brings the laughter.
The renowned U.S. singer-songwriter showcases her comedic side in the new Australian comedy series Urzila, created by South African-born, New Zealand-based comedian Urzila Carlson.
In a recently released clip, Anastacia instructs a squad of backup dancers in preparation for her upcoming single, which she describes as a “dancehall banger.” The session has a singular focus: Anastacia needs to feel the heat.

Anastacia, a former professional dancer herself, shows a surprising preference for Urzila’s quirky choreography over the more conventional moves of standout dancer Davis. While Davis insists that Urzila is from a “lesbian outreach program,” Anastacia praises her unique style. “Maybe I do agree, she wasn’t dancing very good. But I think she was dancing great,” she comments, echoing the sentiments of talent judge Simon Cowell.
Urzila ultimately takes the lead in the choreography, incorporating a blend of finger guns, eyebrow lifts, and “drunk aunty at a wedding” movements.
Anastacia recently shared her enthusiasm for the sketch on social media, expressing her excitement: “Such a joy being part of this! Thank you so much, Urzila Carlson, for having me – I had an absolute blast filming this skit with you. I’m beyond excited for you all to see it! As Urzila says: You’re gonna laugh your head off.”
Emerging as a major artist in the early 2000s, Anastacia gained immense popularity in the U.K. and Europe with hits like “I’m Outta Love,” “Left Outside Alone,” and “Sick and Tired.” She has secured a place in the top 40 of the Official U.K. Singles Chart with 12 songs, including three in the top 10, and six of her albums have reached the U.K. top 10, with her self-titled album from 2004 hitting the number one spot.
Urzila airs Wednesday evenings on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and is available on-demand at ABC iView. View Anastacia’s sketch here.
