Ana Navarro Surprised with a Walk-On Role in ‘Buena Vista Social Club’ for Her Birthday on ‘The View’
Ana Navarro, co-host of The View, has expressed her fondness for the musical Buena Vista Social Club, noting that she has attended the show four times. In a special episode celebrating her birthday on December 28, the Broadway production honored her with a surprise.
Navarro was offered a one-night-only walk-on role in the acclaimed production, which has won five Tony Awards. The specific date for her appearance in the spring is yet to be determined.
As part of The View tradition, Navarro’s birthday was recognized at the end of the episode when she announced a ticket giveaway. Two audience members will win tickets to see musician Marc Anthony during his residency at Las Vegas’ Fontainebleau hotel.
Moderator Joy Behar then introduced BVSC musicians Renesito Avich and David Oquendo, who performed a birthday song for Navarro.

In a playful moment, Navarro exclaimed, “Oh my God, you’re not offering me a role on Buena Vista Social Club, are you?” before the musicians confirmed the offer. “I can’t sing!” she added, laughing.
Describing BVSC as a “Cuban music concert and a play at the same time,” Navarro appeared genuinely surprised as the reality of the offer settled in. “Wait, is this a thing?,” she asked, still in disbelief. “I thought this was a practical joke.”
Buena Vista Social Club, featuring a book by Marco Ramirez and music performed by the ensemble that bears its name, is set in Havana from the 1950s to the 1990s. The narrative chronicles the lives of four musicians over the decades, culminating in their reunion for the 1997 album Buena Vista Social Club. Among its accolades, Natalie Venetia Belcon received the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
