American Hostage to Launch on MGM+ Worldwide, With HBO Max, Movistar Plus+, and Stan Among the Buyers
MGM+ is set to expand its reach with the international rollout of its psychological thriller, American Hostage. The announcement comes just ahead of the upcoming LA Screenings, where the series will be highlighted by distributor Sony Pictures Television (SPT).
The drama, starring Jon Hamm and produced by Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers, will be available in various international markets, including the UK, Germany, Spain (second window), Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and across Latin America.
In addition, SPT has finalized deals for American Hostage with HBO Max in France and Central and Eastern Europe, Movistar Plus+ in Spain, Telia Estonia in Estonia, Telia Play in Lithuania, Tet+ in Latvia, and Stan in Australia. Platforms in New Zealand and across the Middle East, North Africa, and Türkiye will also be airing the series through beIN.
This strategic international launch comes as no surprise, considering the anticipated impact of American Hostage for MGM+. The series, based on a popular scripted podcast, recounts the gripping true story of Fred Heckman, an Indianapolis radio journalist who finds himself in a perilous situation when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands an interview.
